My boy died defending community
THE dad of one of three men run over and killed during riots in Birmingham has said his boy died “defending the community”.
Distraught Tariq Jahan told how he tried to revive son Haroon after he was mowed down while guarding shops from looters.
Tariq said: “He was a good kid, everyone knew him and loved him. I can’t describe to anyone what it feels like to lose your son. I miss him deeply.
He added: “He was trying to help his community. I don’t know what is happening to England and why innocent people have to die.”
Tariq spoke as the two other victims were named as brothers Shazhad Ali, 30, and Abdul Musavir, 31.
Abdul, a pizza delivery boy, is believed to have died from a head injury, while doctors told the family that his brother Shazhad, who owned a petrol station, died from lung damage.
Police have launched a murder investigation. The deaths came as the trio was protecting a community centre and local businesses during a fourth night of violence across the country.
They were standing near a petrol station when a car was said to have come out of nowhere.
Witnesses claimed the men were dealing with a car set on fire when yobs hurled abuse at them while racing by in their motors.
One onlooker said the yobs then came back - and one car mounted the pavement, sending the three victims flying through the air.
Heartbroken Tariq, who lives about 40 yards from the scene in Winson Green, said: “A car came out of nowhere. I heard the thud, ran around and I saw three people on the ground.
“My instinct was to help the three people, I didn’t know who they were or if they’d been injured. I was helping the first man and someone came up behind me and told me it was my son was lying behind me.
“So I started CPR on my own son, my face was covered in blood, my hands were covered in blood.
“The guy who killed him drove directly into the crowd and killed three innocent guys. What was the point of doing that, I don’t understand.
“They were defending the community from all the problems going on around the country.”
